Dancing with What Is
This is an interesting proposition…don’t we dance with what is always? Isn’t this what life is about? I would say yes…and, how often do we bring our attention to what is really happening in the body, in the moment, on the ‘floor’ of our life and into the spaces between our Self and those around us?
How often do we wish something different was happening? What are the many ways we do not let our Self be present to how we feel about what is happening? So this is the ground our moving exploration embarked on together last night.
Every Tuesday RemedyWave is different and holds us in a map of movement that is deeply primal and familiar, safety grows in our community as the years pass…always new movers and a natural ebb and flow of seasoned dancers help to hold space. Tonight we are, by happenstance, all women…as we go, prompts come…the invitation into curiosity with movements, emotions, thoughts that arise and flow through. We roll and rock with what is Here Now. Let the pulse build our awareness and stoke our fire into the wild of this moment….over the edge we go and into the sweet expanse of what is Now…and then slowly into a quiet pause with what is, and again a pause with what is Now. Waves of remedy.
The room breaths together and out of our stillness, together we consider… from the body and our dance with what is, we ask…what remains? What is revealed? What is clear?
We gather in circle and slowly, eyes meet, movers emerge from their deep diving dance, more fully present, into the circle. Voices are found to name and claim what has been discovered. How is it, we wonder, that we can shift so thoroughly in one dance journey while dancing with what is?
One begins the dance feeling discomfort and disorientation in her changing body and dances into a surrender and ease, wondering ‘ok…I can do this…what’s next?’ One begins feeling deep sorrow in her heart and gives herself permission to dance with this…sorrow…embodied and moved, leads her to realizing there is anger underneath and she finds the fire of being ‘pissed off!’. One begins feeling the stress of her work in her body and finds the growing freedom and acceptance in her moving body. One begins feeling the crazy-out-of-control-ness in the people of her life and is delivered into tender clarity that she is falling in love with the teenager she has kept at arms length.
As we dance we cultivate our capacity for presence with what is. We grow our ability to be with what arises in the body, in the ‘room’, on the ‘floor’ of our life and in the spaces between our Self and others. As we keep moving, we find our edges and grow, learning to trust, we grow…into the group, into our connection with the Divine, the Creative, God, our Highest Essential Self…we learn, again and again, that what ever we put into motion…changes.
One gives voice to her newly emerging connection with ‘valuing herself’ as she re-enters the dating world. She finds herself on new ground, feels glimmers of her new requirements, rather than old patterns of over-accommodating others. She finds voice to say…’No, I won’t go out with you!’ and discovers a shifting in her that is still unfamiliar. As for me…my dance swirls and churns in me without words in circle…she shows me with arms like seaweed and the ebb and flow of my back through the waters of the room…’There is a time for all things…so much richness here with what is…instead of grieving what is lost, what is done…connect with your place in the eternal, elemental ebbing and flowing river of life.’
And so we go…one step into the next…into the RemedyWaves.
